Sanctuary

We spent almost 10 years in a 1940’s style house whose previous occupants were missionaries. It was a single two storey structure with wooden floors upstairs, large windows at all sides and trees all around. The upstairs room fronting the street and directly above the living area was a small guest room. It became my home office-studio, became my favorite place. I painted trees and birds on the walls, intending to cover the ceiling with stars and moon.

I loved the wooden, creaky floor and the light flooding into the room. In the summer, birds would come near the window grill and build nests. In our last summer there, a pregnant bird often roosted.
